Texas Rio Grande Valley Shaves Heads for Cancer
Ever been to a St Baldrick’s head shaving event? Well here’s your chance. Valley residents will gather at Texas Trails RV Resort at 501 Owassa Road in Pharr, Texas,
2:00 PM on Sunday, February 22, 2009
This will be the first such event in our area. Volunteers will be shaving their heads as part of a nationwide effort to raise funds for childhood cancer research.
The St Baldrick’s Charity began in 2000 as a casual conversation between friends and has exploded into the world’s biggest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer research. Over $17 million has been raised in 2008 at events such as ours. The total funds raised since the first St Baldrick's event is $50 million. Fundraisers have been held in 48 states and 18 foreign countries including one in Iraq in 2008. And now it’s the turn of the Rio Grande Valley.
You’ve all heard of sponsored walks? How about a sponsored head shave?
Less strenuous! All you do is sit in the chair & have your head shaved. Your friends & family will pledge donations on your behalf & best of all, your participation is a bold statement of solidarity with children fighting cancer who typically lose their hair during treatment.
For local details &/or to sign up, contact Pat or Wayne Chapman - Event Coordinators at 804- 212- 6631, or 956-782-1562 or email waynechapman28@juno.com
Volunteers are needed to shave their heads in honor of loved ones affected by cancer. There will also be an auction at this event. Valley Merchants and Craftsmen are urged to donate items.
